How To Connect an IPad To A TV

First off, I do not own an Ipad, so I can’t personally claim that I’ve used the cables mentioned below to connect an Ipad to a TV.

Secondly, Apple makes two types of cables that will fit TVs – one is the Component AV Cable, and the other is the Composite AV Cable.

The difference?

– The Apple Composite AV Cable fits mostly older, analog style TVs that only have THREE RCA inputs: ONE for video (yellow), and TWO for stereo audio (red and white).

– The Apple Component AV Cable adapts to newer TVs with FIVE RCA inputs: THREE for video (red, green, and blue) and TWO for audio (red and white). This is the newer standard and is likely to only become more popular with the trend of many different inputs being made available on today’s TVs.

Check your TV inputs and match accordingly.

The other end of the cables get plugged in to the 30-pin charging port at the bottom of your Ipad.

Below is a video of an Ipad being hooked up to a TV using the Component AV Cable, so you can see how the FIVE cable adapter is attached.

ALSO: As the fellow in the video below explains, you must edit your Ipad video settings (Settings–>Video–>TV Signal) to accommodate the video-out function. Your display choices will be “PAL” or “NTSC”. If you live in the US the setting you will need will probably be “NTSC”.
